Cookie Policy
Last updated: 25 August 2026
1. The short version
We use no advertising cookies, we do not sell anything about you, and we do not build advertising profiles. Two kinds of measurement run here. Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless and always on: it counts visits and a few in-game events without a cookie, without a cross-site identifier, and without anything that identifies you personally. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are different: they set cookies, Clarity records how pages are used, and they run only if you choose “Sure”on the banner. Choose “No thanks” and they are never loaded at all. The game also stores a few small pieces of data in your browser’s localStorage so it works (your best score, your nickname). If you donate, Stripe sets strictly necessary cookies on its own checkout pages for security and fraud prevention.
2. What we store in your browser (localStorage)
These are functional entries created by the game itself. They stay on your device, are not cookies in the technical sense, are not sent to us automatically, and live until you clear your browser data:
- ranotthus.best: your personal best (time and clicks).
- ranotthus.eaten: how many schnitzels you have finished.
- ranotthus.player: your chosen nickname and a randomly generated device ID, created only if you join the leaderboard.
- ranotthus.consent: remembers whether you said yes or no to the optional analytics below, so we stop asking.
- ranotthus.exitNudge: remembers when the “leaving hungry?” reminder was last shown, so it doesn’t nag you.
- ranotthus.passport: which dishes and plate combinations you have tasted.
- ranotthus.tool: the tool you picked in the armory.
- ranotthus.kitchenTip: remembers that you tipped the kitchen, so your name keeps its star.
- ranotthus.installNudge: remembers that you dismissed the “add to home screen” tip.
2b. Service worker (only if you enable menu alerts)
If — and only if — you switch on menu alerts, the game registers a service worker at /sw.js. It exists solely to receive push notifications: it stores nothing, caches nothing, and does not watch your browsing. Turning alerts off, or clearing your site data, removes it.
3. Stripe checkout cookies
When you open the donation checkout, you are on Stripe’s hosted page. Stripe sets strictly necessary cookies there for payment processing, session integrity, and fraud prevention. These are governed by Stripe’s own cookie policy at stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal. We do not control them.
4. Managing and deleting
Because everything we store is functional, there is nothing to opt out of: without these entries the game simply forgets your best score and nickname. You can delete them at any time by clearing site data for rantotthus.com in your browser settings. Deleting ranotthus.player disconnects your browser from your leaderboard entries (the entries themselves remain; email us to have them removed, see the Privacy Policy).
5. The banner and the optional analytics
The banner on your first visit is a real choice, not a notice. “No thanks” and “Sure” are equally easy, nothing non-essential loads before you pick, and refusing costs you nothing — the whole game works either way.
If you choose “Sure”, these load:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd): counts visits and in-game events — runs started and finished, how far through a plate people get, shares, donations. It sets _ga and _ga_* cookies. Advertising signals are switched off, so nothing here feeds ad targeting.
- Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd): usage analytics and session replay, showing how pages are used — clicks, scrolling and navigation. It sets _clck and _clsk cookies. Clarity masks text content by default, and we never send it your nickname or any payment details.
To change your mind, clear this site’s data in your browser (see section 4) and the banner will ask again on your next visit.
6. Changes and contact
This policy previously said that if we ever added non-essential cookies we would update it and ask for your consent first. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are exactly that, so this page was rewritten and the banner became a real opt-in before either one shipped. Questions: hello@magicpulpo.com.
